A visit to the Prevented Ocean Plastic Centre in Bali

Firstly, what is Prevented Ocean Plastic?
Prevented Ocean Plastic is high quality, fully certified recycled plastic that has been collected from coastal communities in areas at risk of ocean plastic pollution.
Used by supermarkets and brands around the world, it meets regulatory health & safety standards, is traceable back to source and can be identified on pack through its distinctive triangular blue logo.
Having the opportunity to visit the Prevented Ocean Plastic (POP) Centre in Bali during a recent vacation with my friend Natalie, brought the story behind each of our 300ml boutique bottles to life in the most incredible way.
We met with Alvaro, one of the founders of the POP programme and manager of the Bali collection centre, who walked me through the entire journey — from collecting ocean-bound plastic to transforming it into the bottles we use at Tyneham. Every detail had a clear purpose, and every person involved shared the same driving force: passion.
What struck me most was the transparency. Every truck is GPS-tracked, every worker is treated fairly, and every stage of the process is carefully documented. You can literally trace where your kitchen sink bottle began its journey.
Visiting the POP Centre made me realize that saying our bottles are made from Prevented Ocean Plastic means so much more than the material itself. It represents environmental, social, and ethical impact — and the hard work of so many people committed to making a real difference.
As a small, growing company, we feel so proud to be part of this story. My hope is that more people learn about the amazing work POP is doing and understand just how powerful their everyday choices can be.
